The Alfred Gillett Trust recently acquired a set of three plywood animals which had been used for displays in Peter Lord shoe shops in the 1970s. They make a lovely addition to the shop furnishings and retail display material that we collect alongside the footwear and archive collections.
Shoemakers Museum Cafe will open on 15 September 2025 for lunches and light bites offering a taste of Somerset. Shoemakers Museum will open on 18 September - celebrating 200 years of shoemaking history. The museum will be open daily from 10am until 5pm, tickets are available to book now at https://shoemakersmuseum.org.uk/.
Our recruitment is now closed but we are still accepting volunteers who would like to join the team.
A new website will soon replace this Alfred Gillett Trust site. Shoemakers Museum opens later this year. We already have a temporary holding website for it HERE and in June 2025 we launch the full Shoemakers Museum website with all the latest news and essential information about Shoemakers Museum.
